2 Years in Heaven

Today marks 2 years since Nicholas went to Heaven. Hard to believe. In some ways, it seems like yesterday, in others it seems like several lifetimes ago. As time passes, it is easy to slide back in to normal life, or allow things that are not important outweigh what truly defines your life. So today is not about the goals and missions of this foundation. It's not about the sadness and pain that we sometimes feel. It's about a little boy. A little boy that was quite a teacher, if we are willing to look. A boy that had his priorities in complete order: enjoying his family regardless of the circumstances he was enduring, and enjoying his life to the absolute fullest.

I ask that we honor him by not thinking about the sadness of losing a son, family member, or friend - I ask that we honor him by going out in the yard and playing catch, or going out to eat, or going to a movie. Whatever it is in your life that allows you to stop for a moment, and enjoy - truly enjoy life and family, that will honor Nicholas more than anything I know. Sure, he was as brave and couragous a human as I ever met, and there are certainly perspective lessons for all of us to learn. But enjoying life, regardless the circumstances, that's what I believe is the most important lesson our son taught those that came to know him. So stop and enjoy life, have fun, and SMILE!!

Nicholas, we love you, we miss you, I'm so glad you were our son.

Our love to all of you.

Happy Birthday Nicholas

So very hard to believe that today we would have been celebrating Nicholas' sixth birthday.

We'll be headed out for McDonald's Cheeseburgers tonight. A little family tradition ... if you get the chance to get a burger yourself, think of Nicholas and how much he loved them.
